AMD Validated Solutions Frequently Asked Questions

Q: One of the key features of AVS is a commercial stable infrastructure. What does this mean?
A: Stable image chipsets, drivers, and AMD processors are the foundation of the commercial stable infrastructure. AVS desktop platforms adhere to a 15 month stability period and server platforms adhere to a 24 month stability period.

Q: How does a commercial stable infrastructure benefit businesses?
A: Today’s businesses and IT managers desire a simplified IT infrastructure and manageable commercial PCs. By minimizing the number of platform configurations, stable image platforms enable easy and rapid deployment of new systems, reduced testing & qualification times, and simplified PC management and end-user support.

Q: In what countries does AMD Validated Solutions provide service and support?
A: Currently AMD provides service and support to members of the Solution Provider Program in the United States and Canada, and to members of the Reseller Channel Programme in the United Kingdom, Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway, Spain, Sweden, and Switzerland. Q: When does the AVS stability period begin and end?
A: The AVS stability period begins when the platforms are launched as AVS platforms and ends 15 months later for the desktop platforms and 24 months later for the server platforms.

Q: What does the terms “stability period” and qualification period” mean?
A: The stability period is the 15 month cycle for desktop and 24 month cycle for server during which AVS chipsets, drivers and motherboards will be stable.
The qualification period is the first three months in each stability cycle when solution providers are deploying systems to IT organizations to complete qualification testing and begin deploying new systems. Completing qualification in this window helps IT organizations maximize the period of time that the stable platforms will be available.

Q: Does AVS guarantee there will be no component or driver changes over the stability period?
A: Chipset and platforms providers are required to provide advanced notification for image impacting changes. There is a chance that a change could occur which may impact disk image stability.
